We are currently seeking an Order Picker + Shipper for a 6-month contract at our Burnaby location, part of our Purity Life Grocery division.
ABOUT THE JOB
This is a vital role in our operations; the Order Pickers fulfill customer orders and prepare them for shipping. This role works in our dry storage area, and may help in the cooler and/or freezer if needed, operates machinery, and palletizes the order as it is being picked. This role provides backup support in Shipping, which involves creating and organizing paperwork for deliveries, interacting with external transportation companies, internal truck drivers, other departments and consolidating orders from various temperature-controlled zones in the warehouse.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Order Picking:
- Pick products as indicated on individual pick lists.
- Place products on pallet such that they are stable, secure, and well-balanced.
- Be familiar with warehouse layout, including directional access and location codes.
- Meet and exceed expectations related to accuracy and productivity.
- Adhere to safety standards, both in equipment use and in picking procedures.
- Learn and follow steps to choose correct pallet for different customers.
- Follow procedures when product is out-of-stock.
- Place pallets in correct staging area (for QC to check or for shipping).
- As directed, wrap pallets and prepare for shipping.
- Complete paperwork as required (pallet tags, tracking paperwork, etc.).
- Learn and follow spill clean-up procedures.
- Participate in inventory as required.
- Assist with general warehouse clean-up/housekeeping.
- Follow Food Safety and GDP guidelines.
Shipping:
- Work with the other members of the Shipping team to ensure accurate shipping of all outgoing orders, ship-outs and pick-ups.
- Work with the other members of the Shipping team to establish shipping priorities on a daily basis. Schedule pick-up times with carrier companies via email and phone.
- Communicate daily with Purity drivers regarding any overlap or switching of orders (i.e., where drivers can deliver a ship-out order, or if a delivery needs to be shipped). Prepare or adjust the appropriate paperwork.
- Optimize the use of the ship-out area, with regard to workflow patterns and space organization to make the most efficient and productive use of time for shipping orders out.
- Maintain a day-to-day overview of the status of skids in the shipping area. Notify Customer Care and/or Shift Supervisor regarding any uncertainties about goods in the shipping area.
- Ensure ALL pieces of the order are included in the orders going out, that the piece count is checked, and that the orders are well-built and secure for shipping. Notify the appropriate person or department if there are problems.
- Be familiar with the shipping companies and their personnel. Convey any pertinent shipping information to the workgroup as necessary.
- Use pallet mover and other equipment to load Commercial Carrier trucks with their orders for delivery.
- Use pallet mover and other equipment to consolidate orders from our three (3) zones: dry, cooler, freezer.
- Assist where necessary to expedite any "add-ons" to orders that are ready to go out that day.
Invoicing:
- Use warehouse software programs to select orders, print shipping labels, complete invoicing and print other required paperwork for deliveries.
- Ensure that all paperwork is accurate, legible, and signed correctly (e.g., invoices, BOL's, etc.). Ensure that any invoices for items added after the original invoicing are consolidated with the original paperwork. Investigate any discrepancies between paperwork and orders. Ensure that all appropriate paperwork reaches Customer Care.
- Be familiar with the shipping schedule and daily priorities for orders going out.
- Keep adequate records of outgoing daily shipments as specified by the Warehouse Leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS + EXPECTATIONS:
- Must have previous warehouse picking experience.
- High level of physical ability and endurance.
- Can lift up to 50lbs.
- Repeated lifting, bending, twisting, standing, reaching.
- Attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
- Ability to work autonomously; be self-directed and complete work independently.
- Reading comprehension of alphanumeric codes.
- Food Safety trained.
- Machine operation experience preferred (ride-on pallet mover).
- Knowledge of warehouse (distribution) operations and flow.
- Knowledge of operation and capabilities of loading ramps and equipment.
- Clear, friendly, professional communication skills, in person, on the phone and via email.
- Ability to work with paper documentation and accurate counting skills.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and stay organized.
- Comfortable troubleshooting situations in the moment.
- Good technical literacy (computer skills) and adept at learning new software.
- Combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and driving machinery.
COMPENSATION + WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a full-time and contract position (40 hours/week) with options for overtime as required. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 3-11pm, and the contract length is approximately 6-months.
The starting rate for Order Picking is $23.10/hour and $24.02/hour for Shipping, with a $1/hour premium for hours worked after 9pm (in either role).
